A cost effective lightweight rocker arm is made from parallel metal flanges (31) with coaxial holes for the rocker shaft (38) and with a roller (32) held between the flanges at one end to act as a cam followers. The thrust fitting (36) for pressing onto the valve stem is secured to the other end of the rocker arm. The rocker arm can be made from one piece of strip metal bent over at one end to form a U-shape. The bent end (35b) is further shaped to form a bore which is tapped (35f) to take the threaded shaft of the valve thrust profile. The cam follower roller is fitted onto a shaft (34) secured between the two flanges of the rocker arm.
