PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a reflective-type liquid crystal display element which shows a high bistability, has good properties such as color purity, reflectivity, etc., and a high contrast and allows a low setting of a driving voltage. SOLUTION: A reflective-type liquid crystal display element has a liquid crystal composition 21 exerting a cholesteric phase and a columnar structure 20 between base plates 11 and 12 forming ITO electrodes 13 and 14. Here, the liquid crystal composition 21 contains a liquid crystal pyrimidine compound containing fluorine within the molecule, a liquid crystal tolane compound containing fluorine within the molecule and a chiral material and optionally contains a liquid crystal phenyl cyclohexane compound, a liquid crystal cyanobiphenyl compound or a liquid crystal alkenyl compound.
