Prepn. of storage-stable hydrogel mouldings, esp. contact lenses, comprises: (a) transferring a hydrogel moulding that contains hydrolytically removable side gps. to a container; (b) filling up the container contg. the hydrogel moulding with a basic buffer soln.; (c) closing the container; and (d) autoclaving the container contg. the hydrogel moulding and the basic buffer soln. at at least 100 deg C. During autoclaving, the hydrolytically removable side gps. are removed, the container contents are sterilised and the basic buffer soln. is converted into a physiologically acceptable aq. soln. that is substantially isotonic and pH-compatible with the lacrimal fluid of the human eye. |
