PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To design a base film for a storage medium such that the film surface is provided with proper projections as well as smoothness and also with superior dimensional stability by structuring the base film with a conjugate material made up of a resin and an interlayer compound. SOLUTION: A base film for a storage medium is constituted of a conjugate material made up of a resin and an interlayer compound; the height of the projections, which are formed on the surface of the conjugate material with the interlayer compound, are unevenly distributed in the range of 20 nm or below in the quantity of 90% or more of the total projections. The interlayer compound, for which swelling silicate is organically processed by organic onium ion, is uniformly diffused in the resin. The sheet-shaped interlayer compound with a thickness of 1 nm to a reversal tens nms is oriented parallelly to the surface of the conjugate material and dispersed, thereby enabling a surface to be formed suitable for the base film for the storage medium. With the resin containing the interlayer compound, a low line expansion coefficient can also be obtained. As the resin, the one facilitating a superior strength for the film is used such as polyester resin and polycarbonate resin.
