PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and precisely control the thickness of a lump of ice produced by a cooling device by detecting the temperature of the lump of ice. SOLUTION: In a liquid tank 16a where cooling water is stored, a vaporizer 30 led out of a cooling mechanism 46 is arranged. A thermistor 26 is arranged nearby the vaporizer 30. The detection signal of the thermistor 26 is outputted to a control unit 24 which turns ON and OFF the operation of the cooling mechanism 46. Through the operation of the freezing mechanism 46, a refrigerant is circulated and supplied to a vaporizing pipe 30 and when the vaporizing pipe 30 is cooled, part of the cooling water is frozen to produce a lump of ice. When the thermistor 26 detects ice thickness temperature continuously for an ice thickness temperature holding time, the operation of the cooling mechanism is stopped. When the lump of ice is molten and the thermistor 26 detects ice melting temperature continuously for an ice melting temperature holding time, the operation of the cooling mechanism 46 is restarted.
