PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resistor capable of reducing cost, without degradation of insulation of the resistor from adjacent components due to melting, firing and electrical are of coating tube and the like at overload, firing of adjacent components or a printed wiring board by a spark from the resistor, and firing occurring with the resistor and the like broken at overload falling down to adjacent components and the printed wiring board, and a method of producing the resistor. SOLUTION: A resistor comprises a resistor base 11 of a ceramic material, a resistor body 12 provided on the resistor base 11, lead terminals 13 connected to both ends of the resistor body 12, an incombustible coating 14 coating the resistor body 12, a thermoplastic resin tube 15 covering the incombustible coating 14 and the lead terminals 13, weldings 16a and 16b welding both ends of the thermoplastic resin tube 15, except where it covers the incombustible coating 14.
