PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber splice protecting tool with high reliability which applies no large stress to a splice. SOLUTION: A fiber 300 includes a coating 310 and a fiber 350 includes a coating 360, which has a larger diameter than the coating 310. The splice protecting tool 30 has a sleeve 320 to cover the coating 310 and the sleeve has a diameter nearly equal to that of the coating 360. The splice 390 is covered with a splint 370, which extends from the sleeve 320 to the coating 360. Further, the splice protecting tool 30 is applied for the splice 390 by positioning the splint 370 at the splice 390 and testing the resistance of the splice 390, and then thermally setting the spring 390 around the splice 390.
