PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely and accurately perform protection and position control of an image pickup unit. SOLUTION: Inside a main body 2 of a camera, an image pickup unit is provided at a position facing an opening 5 so as to be vertically and horizontally turned through a drive member 26 composed of a piezoelectric element. In the state of turning of the main switch of a camera, the image pickup unit is set at a prescribed position so as not to expose a photographing lens 231 from the opening 5 and while shielding the opening 5 with the main body 23 of a unit the protection of the photographing lens 231 and the light shielding of an imaging device are performed. When the main switch is turned on, the image pickup unit is automatically set at a prescribed position so as to expose the photographing lens 231 from the opening 5 and to direct its optical axis toward the front and photographing is enabled. Since the image pickup unit is automatically set to the shielded position of the opening 5 and the exposing position of the photographing lens 231 corresponding to the state change of the main switch, protection and position control can be surely performed.
