PURPOSE: An austenite stainless steel is provided which has a good resistance against a general corrosion, pitting corrosion and crevice corrosion. CONSTITUTION: The stainless steel comprises 0.01- 0.08 weight % of carbon, 0.1- 1 weight % of silicon, 5- 11 weight % of manganese, 15- 17.5 weight % of chrome, 1- 4 weight % of nickel, 1- 4 weight % of copper, 1 x 10 -4 - 20 x 10 -4 weight % of sulfur, 1 x 10 -4 - 50 x 10 -4 weight % of calcium, 0- 0.03 weight % of aluminum, 0.005- 0.1 weight % of phosphor, less than 5 x 10 -4 weight % of borate, less than 0.01 weight % of oxygen and residue of impurities.
