PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a monitoring device around a vehicle for which an optical means capable of selecting a visual field photographs two images of an object in pairs in a prescribed direction of visual field, the two images are compared, the presence for a difference between the two images is discriminated and a state around the vehicle is properly comprehended, based on an information signal being the discrimination result. SOLUTION: This monitoring device is provided with a 2nd reflection section 13 that receives reflected lights from 1st reflection sections 11, 12, a visual field changeover drive means that selects either of visual field directions of the 1st and 2nd reflection sections, a photographing means 15 that photographs the reflected image of the 2nd reflection section, and an image processing section 20 that processes the image signal from the photographing means and provides an output of an information signal around the vehicle.
