PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a serum sample direct injection-type filler which does not adsorb a protein selectively, whose separation capability from a medicine is high, whose durability is high and whose usage pH range is wide, to provide a filler for protein removal treatment or a filler for protein removal pretreatment and to provide its preparation method. SOLUTION: A filler for a liquid chromatograph is composed of a porous cross-linking polymer whose particle size is 1 to 500μm and whose pore diameter is 40 to 120Åin such a way that an alcoholic hydroxyl group of 3 meq/g or higher is provided on the surface of the porous cross-linking polymer (hydrophobic particles) prepared by the aqueous suspension polymerization of a mixture of diluents which dissolve a noncross-linking monomer and a cross-linking monomer, which are inert with reference to a polymerization reaction and which do not dissolve a polymer.
