PURPOSE: An omnidirectional image apparatus provides a method which can project an image of a substantially hemispherical scene as viewed from a single viewpoint. CONSTITUTION: An omnidirectional image apparatus(130) comprises of; paraboloid shaped reflector(135) positioned to orthographically reflect an image of the substantially hemispherical scene, being set up on the board(140); an image sensor(110) positioned to receive the orthographically reflected image; a telecentric lens(113) operating to eliminate all beams of light being not vertically on the lens, i.e., the background beam of light not forming a part of an orthographic reflection the hemispherical scene. A method for projecting an image of hemispherical scene as viewed from a single viewpoint includes the following steps. The first step projects a collimated beam of light modulated with the image from the reflection scene shaped hemisphere. The second step orthographically reflects the collimated beam of light modulated with the image to the reflection scene shaped hemisphere such that a single viewpoint is same with the focal point of the orthographic reflection scene.
