PURPOSE: An information processing device and method is provided to reduce a data processing time stored in a tag. CONSTITUTION: If a video cassette whose tag(2) is attached to the information processing device(1) is installed or goes close to a predetermined distance, a read writer(11) reads a serial number(61) from the tag(12), and judges whether the number(61) is stored in a memory(13). When the number(61) is stored in the memory(13), the read writer(11) reads a change history data(62) from the tag(2), and judges whether the read change history data(62) is identical to a change history data stored in the memory(13). When the read change history data(62) is not identical to a change history data stored in the memory(13), the read writer(11) reads all data from the tag(2), stores the read data to the memory(13), and processes reading a proper data. When the read change history data(62) is identical to a change history data stored in the memory(13), the read writer(11) processes reading all of previously stored data of the tag(2) from the memory(13).
