PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress stall of a discharge lamp at start till the rated frequency lighting is established. SOLUTION: The input voltage from a DC power supply is boosted by a DC booster circuit, and the output therefrom is converted into AC pulses by an inverter to supply power to a discharge lamp. Till the certain time from the power being put on at start of the discharge lamp, drive signal pulses for the inverter are emitted after sufficient rise of the drive power of the inverter or the drive signal pulses for the inverter are emitted upon oscillation with a frequency over the rated lighting frequency of the discharge lamp till that time, and the output of the inverter is precluded from inversion for a specified period from the start of lighting of the discharge lamp with impression of a start pulse. |
