PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable intake device for a V-type multiple cylinder internal combustion engine, for providing a high volumetric efficiency and a high output torque over a wide rotational range. SOLUTION: This device has right and left banks 4l, 4r having ignition timing exploding alternatively and at equal intervals, and is equipped with variable valve timing changing mechanisms 12l, 12r changing intake characteristics between a low speed mode and a high speed mode and an intake passage changing mechanism changing the intake characteristics of an intake passage among a low speed mode, a middle speed mode and a high speed mode. An intake manifold 3 is equipped with a pair of right and left first chambers 40l, 40r, second chambers 31l, 31r and clockwise and counterclockwise plural pairs of second intake passages 32l, 32r. First operating valves 27l, 27r arranged in a first intake passage are opened, thereby the intake characteristic is changed from the low speed mode to the middle speed mode. A second operating valve arranged in a second communicating passage is closed, thereby the intake characteristic is changed from the middle speed mode to the high speed mode. After that, the intake characteristic is changed from the low speed mode to the high speed mode by the variable valve timing changing mechanism.
