PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a deoxidizer composition capable of effecting an oxygen absorbing reaction even in the atmosphere of lower moisture content and preserving such products as drugs and foods apt to be easily damaged by moisture in the atmosphere of deoxidization by including an iron powder and iodine. SOLUTION: This composition comprises (A) an iron powder having e.g. the average diameter of particles of 10 to 500μm and a specific surface ratio of 500 cm2/g, (B) iodine particles (having the maximum diameter of particle of pref. <=50 mesh), and, pref. (C) a metal iodide e.g. sodium iodide, potassium iodide or calcium iodide. The total weight of the iodine and metal iodide is pref. 0.01 to 20 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the iron powder, the weight ratio of the metal iodide to the iodine is pref. 0.1 to 5. The composition is <=1 wt.% in moisture content and pref. packed into small bags made of an air-permeable packaging material.
