PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink jet recorder in which individual ink cartridges for a plurality of kinds of ink and an ink cartridge containing them integrally can be selected and mounted while indicating purge operation and scarce residual quantity of ink depending on these ink cartridges. SOLUTION: A head holder 10 supporting recording heads 11-14 is mounted selectively with a plurality of ink cartridges 31-34 containing a plurality of kinds of ink, respectively, and an ink cartridge 35 containing the plurality of kinds of ink integrally while separating with partition walls. A decision is then made which type of ink cartridge is mounted and if a plurality of ink cartridges are used, an indicating means is operated individually for each ink having scarce residual quantity and a purge means is driven for a recording head corresponding to a replaced cartridge. If the integrated ink cartridge is used, a plurality of indicating means are operated entirely when any one of ink has scarce residual quantity and the purge means is driven for all recording head. |
