SHOJI PAPER CONTAINING REINFORCING CLOTH AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a paper for Shoji (a sliding paper screen for Japanese house) having toughness and soft feeling and easily cuttable with a cutter knife by sandwiching and integrating a reinforcing cloth between a front Shoji paper and a back Shoji paper. SOLUTION: A wet paper layer to be used as a front Shoji paper is produced by a paper machine using pulp as a main raw material. A reinforcing woven cloth produced by arranging warps consisting of 100% rayon yarns with yarn count of 60 and wefts consisting of 100% rayon yarns with yarn count of 16-60 at a density of 9-15 yarns per 1 inch is placed on the wet paper layer and the laminate is pressed to form a relief pattern corresponding to the configuration of the yarns of the above reinforcing cloth on the outer surface of the wet paper layer. Another wet paper layer to give a back Shoji paper is laminated on the surface of the reinforcing cloth and the integrated laminate is dried to obtain the objective Shoji paper containing a reinforcing cloth and having protruded relief pattern on the surface of the front Shoji paper.
