PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To start paper feeding operation of an automatic document feeding device so as to meet the operating condition of a body, prevent the conveyance capability of a document from being lowered by increasing the setting capability of the document, and set a batch of documents with good alignment in a consolidated mode according to user's environment. SOLUTION: When an operable/inporable signal is sent from a body 2 to this automatic document feeding device 1, and only in the case where the body 2 is under an operable condition and setting of the document is detected by a document setting sensor 21, the automatic document feeding device 1 prepares for paper feeding operation such as moving up a bottom plate and starts paper feeding operation with a paper feeding start signal from the body 2. When a consolidated mode is selected at the operating part 43 of the body 2, the automatic document feeding device 1 starts preparing for the paper feeding operation with the paper feeding start signal from the body 2 without preparing for the paper feeding operation at the time of detecting document setting.
