<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound having a condensed ring of an aromatic ring with a pyran ring having a vinylene group, and other aromatic ring connected through the vinylene group, further having a large electro-optic effect, and useful for production of a nonlinear optical part or the like having high thermal stability. SOLUTION: This new compound is the one of formula I [Ar1 and Ar2 are each a divalent armatic group; R1 to R3 are each H, an alkyl or the like; X1 is a monovalent organic group; (n) is 3-12; Z1 and Z2 are each a monovalent electron attractive functional group or the like], e.g. a compound of formula II (Et is ethyl). The compound of formula I is obtained, for example, by condensing a compound of the formula X1-(CR1R2)n-N(R3)-Ar1-Br e.g. N-ethyl- N-[6-(tetrahydropyran-2-yl)oxyhexyl]-4-bromoaniline} with N,N-dimethylacrolein to provide an aldehyde, and further condensing the obtained aldehyde with a compound of formula III (Me is methyl), [e.g. 2'-hydroxy-2-(methylsulfinyl) acetophenone], also condensing the obtained product with a compound of formula IV.</p> |
