PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow an ink jet recording medium to develop an excellent liquid absorptivity due to a high level porosity, and prevent the occurrence of printing defects to be caused by high speed ink drying or the like by forming the medium of a substrate having at least one surface coated with a coating composition containing a mixture of in organic colloidal particles and a non-colloidal pigment. SOLUTION: The ink jet recording medium is formed of an substrate having at least one surface coated with a coating composition containing a mixture of inorganic colloidal particles and a non-colloidal pigment. In this case, a coating composition not containing an organic component is preferably disposed on the substrate surface. As a suitable example of a substrate material, there are given ordinary paper, glossy paper, an opaque or transparent polymer film, and the like. Also, as an example of a non-colloidal pigment, there are given clay, calcium carbonate, titanium dioxide, baked clay, and the like, and as an example of colloidal particles, there are given silica, alumina, tin oxide, antimonate, and the like that are generally dispersed in water or solvent. |
