SYNTHESIS OF METHANE-RICH GAS FROM HYDROCARBON- CONTAINING COMPOUND AND PRODUCTION OF SNG OR CITY GAS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a methane-rich gas from a saturated hydrocarbon e.g. LNG (propane or butane) easy in industrial supply by contacting a specific hydrocarbon with a specific catalyst in vapor phase in a multistage way. SOLUTION: This methane-rich gas is obtained by contacting a carbon-and- hydrogen-containing compound selected from the group of hydrocarbons and lower alcohols, pref., a 2-20C saturated hydrocarbon with a catalyst comprising a group VIII metal element (pref. nickel) held by a support of e.g. silica (pref., further comprising a diluent) in vapor phase, pref., at 150 to 800 deg.C in a multistage way.
