PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire electric discharge machine capable of surely housing a number of unnecessary wire electrodes by a simple structure. SOLUTION: A recovery container 51 is provided for housing a cut unnecessary wire electrode 1a and, when a wire electrode 1 is disconnected, the route of the wire electrode 1 is switched from the side of an article to be machined to the recovery container 51 side by moving wire guides 8 and 10 for guiding the wire electrode 1 to the article to be machined. An inclined wall 52 is provided in the recovery container 51, and the inclined wall 52 is formed to have an angle in a vertical direction by being inclined in the same direction of the disposing route of the unnecessary wire electrode 1a switched to the recovery container 51 side.
