PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve system for an engine which can improve output performance by increasing an angular area without increasing maximum acceleration. SOLUTION: In this valve system for an engine, an absolute value of an acceleration factor near a maximum lifting point of a valve is set smaller than that in the adjacent valve lifting areas on advancing and retarding sides. When a rising acceleration increasing area length where the acceleration factor during increasing the valve lifting (a rising area) is denoted byθ0upa, while a rising acceleration decreasing area length is denoted byθ0upb,θ0upa is less thanθ0upb. A can shaft has at least one of thus set exhaust can profile or intake can profile.
