PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic encoder which can endure harsh environments such as dust, oil and vibration, facilitates fixing and adjustment, and enables cost reduction. SOLUTION: This magnetic encoder is provided with a rotating body 1 which is a magnetic member and has a code part 2 where unevenness is formed at constant intervals in the circumferential direction, and a magnetic sensor 3 detecting the unevenness in the code part 2 of the rotating body 1. In a detecting part position AB of an A phase and a B phase in the code part 2, unevenness is formed at intervals of one-pitch unit. Detecting part positions U, V, W of an U phase, a V phase and a W phase have part positions where unevenness is formed at intervals of two-pitch unit and part positions where unevenness is formed at intervals of one-pitch unit.
