PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to convert incident non-polarized light to P polarized light with extremely low loss and to emit the light by constituting the element of a transparent substrate, a double refractive film, micro-array lens, etc. SOLUTION: The natural light 6 which is the non-polarized light is converged by the microlenses of the micro-array lens 1 having a convex lens function. Next, the incident light which is the non-polarized light is separated to the P polarized light which is linearly polarized light having a plane of polarization parallel with the stripe direction of the micro-array lens 1 on the surface of a thin film 3 having double refractiveness and S polarized light which is the perpendicular linearly polarized light. The P polarized light advances rectilinearly through the thin film 3 having the high double refractiveness. The S polarized light advances rectilinearly through the thin film 3 having the further high double refractiveness in the direction parallel with the P polarized light on the rear surface of the thin film. The S polarized light past the thin film 3 having the high double refractiveness passes a liquid crystal wavelength plate 4 aligning liquid crystals. At this time, the S polarized light is rotated 90 deg. in its plane of polarization and, therefore, the light passing the substrate 5 transparent to visible light is mostly the P polarized light. |
