PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting a relative depth of an object in a picture from a pair of pictures. SOLUTION: In a method which detects a relative depth of two adjacent areas that mutually and relatively move from two pictures which can be obtained from shots of different scenes, spatial fragmentation of one of the pictures or a reference picture is performed, and local estimation of movement between the two pictures is performed, a vector field which is caused as a result is called a local movement, a movement estimation error along a motion boundary is decided localization of the movement estimation error along the movement boundary is analyzed, and the conclution that an A area is front of a B area when the movement estimation error along the boundary is localized mainly on a B side of this boundary is conducted. |
