PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make easily judgeable an item which needs to have its settings changed in an operation screen and to easily generate the operation screen which is rich in variation without any special knowledge about the generation of the operation picture in a method for generating the operation screen for a program type display device which is connected to an external device and performs display and control operation corresponding to data variation on the external device side. SOLUTION: A general basic screen is generated in advance and when the basic screen is edited, necessary operation screen data 27 are generated by displaying a list of places where data need to be set or modified by functional components and also correcting the basic screen while referring to the data in the list among data wherein the converting procedure of the basic screen is entered.
