PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate echo noise even while ambient is generated and to evade abnormal sound generation. SOLUTION: This echo canceler is provided with a noise detection part 8 which holds signal information on previously estimated ambient noise Ns, e.g. the horn of a vehicle. This noise detection part 8 monitors a transmit signal So received from a microphone 11 and while the said ambient noise Ns is detected in the transmit signal, an adaptive filter 6 outputs the dummy echo Se right before the detection of the ambient noise Ns.
