PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup unit having high optical performance as a whole containing a photographing optical system, an imaging device and the like. SOLUTION: An image pickup unit is provided with a photographing optical system OP formed of a lens group (G1-G3) and with an imaging device ID converting an optical image into an electric signal. The value of a parameter showing the optical performance of the photographing optical system OP is detected by the imaging device ID, the lens group G1 is moved based on the detected value and optical performance is adjusted. The value of the parameter is detected by the imaging device ID and the imaging device ID is moved in parallel to an optical axis AX based on the detected value. Thus, the position of the imaging device is adjusted to a best position.
