PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a residual chlorine concentration detector for easily detecting a state of detection fault and to provide a residual chlorine concentration measuring apparatus for holding a residual chlorine concentration in a preferable state as the next best state as an emergency countermeasure in the case of the detecting fault state of the detector. SOLUTION: A controller 20 for conducting a cleaning operation of electrode surfaces by inverting polarities of the electrodes at a predetermined timing during an operation of the residual chlorine concentration detector 10 for detecting a residual chlorine concentration contained in water by electrolyzing the water and deciding the detector in a detection fault state in the case of predetermined constant conditions of a change of the detected concentration after the polarities of the electrodes are reset is provided.
