PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly change a recorded business message and also to prevent the confusion which is caused when the message is recorded and reproduced by detecting the operation signal that is operated by an originator after an operating message is sent and controlling the message recording for a sound recording medium based on the detection output of the operation signal. SOLUTION: A memory 15 of this telephone system includes an area called a business index which is stored corresponding to telephone number (originating number) of the originator of a business message and the recording area of a recording/reproducing IC 6 every time a business message is recorded in the recording area of the IC 6. A CPU 1 decides whether the originating number which is already received is stored in the business index in regard to the current incoming when this incoming is detected. If the said originating number is stored, the CPU 1 decides the presence of a business of the same number. Thus, the CPU 1 sends a message to the originator in reply to the incoming to show that the business message of the same originator is already recorded.
