<p>An automated container handling and processing system (10) includes a metal and plastic container handling subsystems (12, 12') which includes a conveyor (14, 14') for conveying a plurality of large bins (26) carrying crushed containers. An automated dumping station (32, 32') receives and inverts the bins (26) to dump the crushed containers into a central hopper (20, 20'), then sends the bins to a washer (56, 56'). A belt conveyor (86, 86') receives containers which do not require identification or accounting, and a second belt conveyor (92, 92') receives containers from sorting machines (94) which are capable of reading a bar code on each container to identify the brand and of providing that information to a central accounting system. Both conveyors lead to the central hopper (20, 20') which feeds all containers to a crusher/baler (16, 16').</p> |
