With the traversal of a point (3), construction-conditioned properties of the right- and left-going rail tracks (2,4) are detected by the vehicle in sensory fashion during the transversal over a point. With the traversal of a point (3), construction-conditioned properties of the right- and left-going rail tracks (2,4) are detected by the vehicle in sensory fashion during transversal over a point. Directional information is derived and the information taken up is used for track-selective orientation. The respective point traversed is evaluated in data-technical fashion and the information derived from this is given as a reset point referenced to the point and of its direction, without a large data volume in the section atlas being necessary.
