The method involves determining pressure curve and/or the required volume flow for at least one operating characteristic value of the pressure source (50), with the application of pressure, determined from the presence of a leak. The operating characteristic value of the pressure source with an application of pressure only in one specifiable time interval (DELTA tm), is determined. With the use of extrapolation, the time curve determined in this manner of the at least one operating characteristic value explains the existence of a leak. The time interval (DELTA tm) amounts to a value of 30 to 60 seconds.
