The system includes a transmission network (1) which is provided as an open transport network (OTN). At least an optical monitoring unit (18,19) is provided at at least one stop. The video signals of the monitoring unit can be supplied to the open transport network using a video-in-interface card (3) arranged in a node (2) allocated to the corresponding stop. The video signals can be drawn from the transport network using a video-out-interface card arranged at a node allocated in a monitoring station. Preferably, an acoustic monitoring unit is provided at at least one stop. The acoustic signals can be supplied to the network via an audio-in-interface card and can be drawn from the network using an audio-out-interface card. The network is preferably formed by an optical fibre double-ring network.
