<p>An information recorder and an information player use near-field light for information reproduction and tracking control. An information recording medium (3) includes a servo pattern area where servo bits for tracking control are formed. In the servo pattern area, the servo bits include first grooves that are deep in a direction perpendicular to both the depth of a recording medium and the length of read tracks, and second grooves that are deep in the direction opposite to the first grooves and alternate with the first grooves. The first grooves have their depth being constant or gradually increasing along the read track followed by a reproduction probe (1). When near-field light (5) is incident on the servo pattern area through a minute opening (2) in the reproduction probe (1), deviations from the center of the read track cause tracking signals to have varying waveforms. The reproduction probe (1) is positioned according to the tracking signals.</p> |
