The present invention relates to a retaining net system in which the lower edge (16) of the retaining net (13) is attached by two anchoring members (24) in a vehicle. The anchoring members (24) include two non-expansible tension members which are maintained in a suspended state by pre-stress members under a corresponding pre-stressed condition. An automatic tightening device is used for inducing the pre-stress forces required for tensioning the retaining net in the bodywork (7) as well as the stronger forces which are involved when an object impinges against said retaining net (13).
