The holder, designed to be partially buried in the soil, consists of a tubular body (1) with its base (3) enlarged to receive a root, bulb or tuber, and its upper end (2) kept free of soil to allow light to penetrate to the base and promote photosynthesis. The base has hooks (7) for an elastic band (8) holding the root, bulb or tuber in place before and during planting. It can also have one or more holes for fixing spikes or radial stabilisers (12) to keep it upright, made in one piece with the tubular body, e.g. from moulded plastic.
