The segmented (3a) armature has a braking shoe (8) at its outer edge, gripping over the circumferential edge (9) of the rotor flange (6) and are retracted by electromagnets (2). When switched off, the segments are released and tilt under spring action (7) to press their brake shoes against the rotor.
