PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an infrared image pickup apparatus which can automatically eliminate an FPN(fixed pattern noise)-changed component due to a change in surrounding temperature. SOLUTION: In a state where uniform reference infrared light is made incident, FPN data are stored in an FPN data memory 3. An image pickup signal (c) is obtained by subtracting the FPN data (d) from a sensor image signal (b) at a subtraction circuit 2. An FPN detection circuit 5 multiplies respective pixel data between the output (d) of an FPN data read circuit 4 and the image pickup signal (c), and outputs a remaining FPN detection signal (e) to a bias generation circuit 6. The bias generation circuit 6 cumulatively subtracts the remaining FPN detection signal (e) at each updating of the signal and impresses a current proportional to the result as a bias signal (f) to a sensor 1. In consequence of this, an FPN component included in the image pickup signal (c) is controlled to be minimum, thereby preventing an image-quality deterioration brought about when an FPN-changed component appears on a screen.
