CATALYST FOR DECOMPOSING/DETOXIFYING POLLUTANT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyet which can be supplied in a large quantity as that for detoxifying pollutants by decomposition instead of adsorption. SOLUTION: The charcoal powder of burned carbide produced by burning ceder wood at 300-800 deg.C is immersed in a metal salt solution such as a copper nitrate solution and a nickel nitrate solution or a metal alkoxide solution of Ti(OC3H7)4 Fe(C5H7O2)3 and others, and dried by a constant temperature drier to obtain raw material powder. A catalyst for decomposing/detoxifying pollutants obtained by packing the raws material powder in a mold and sintering the powder at 2500 deg.C by the electric discharge between powder particles while the powder being pressurized under reduced pressure. In this way, the sintered charcoal produced by sintering the charcoal powder demonstrates a reducing function, and the function is further strengthened by microcrystal metal particles dispersed in the fine structure of the sintered charcoal so that pollutants in air or water are reduced/decomposed to be detoxified.
