1,183,354. Moulding refractory bricks from particulate material. RHEINISCHE KALKSTEINWERKE G.m.b.H. 8 March, 1967 [12 March, 1966], No. 10983/67. Heading B5A. Variations in weight and volume of wedge shaped refractory bricks moulded from granular material, e.g. burnt dolomite and tar for lining of furnaces and converters, are minimized by pre-compressing with a ram 4 a predetermined volume of the material fed to a die 3 from a slide 2, and thereafter depositing further material in the die 3 which is then displaced for compression by an inclined surface ram 7, whereby the further volume increases with the compressibility of the material during the precompression, and/or a decrease in the weight of the first volume as measured by a device 10 acting through a regulator 8 which acts to displace a lower mould plunger 9 and may also act to decrease the pressure of ram 4 with a higher weight of the predetermined volume. The pressure of the ram 7 may also be increased with increasing compressibility of the material as measured by a device 5. The ram 4 is provided with a surface of adjustable inclination whereby it may press the material to an angle opposed or intermediate that produced by the ram 7. The mould table may reciprocate, or rotate. The surface of ram 4 may be provided with spikes whereby the surface of the compressed material is roughened by a shaking motion to assist bonding of the further volume. |
