PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide circular fluorescent lamps prepared for a low profile luminaire, and to provide the luminaire using the circular fluorescent lamps. SOLUTION: This circular fluorescent lamp 1a (1b, 1c) is made of soda lime glass and has a circular outside diameter D1 approximately the same as a conventional circular fluorescent lamp, a bulb outside diameter d of 15-18 mm being smaller than that of a conventional bulb, and the thickness of 0.8-1.2 mm. A fluorescent material is applied on the internal surface of the glass bulb, and mercury and a rare gas are enclosed within the glass bulb. The circular fluorescent lamp 1a (1b, 1b) is lighted by the lamp voltage of 15-50 W and at the high-frequency of more 10 kHz.
