PURPOSE: A porous ceramics is prepared which has a high porosity not heat-treating at high temperature. CONSTITUTION: 20-80 diatomite or zeolite having a particle size of less than 150 micrometer, or their compound and 20- 80 weight % of a glass powder having a particle size of less than 100 micrometer are mixed and heat-treated at 750- 850°C to give the porous ceramics. Thus, 60 weight % of the diatomite having a particle size of less than 150 micrometer and 40 weight % of the glass powder having a particle size of less than 100 micrometer are mixed and heated at 800°C to give the porous ceramics having 46 % of porosity, 1.18 g/cc of apparent density, 0.40 g of absorption rate and 26 meq/100 g of cation exchange ability.
