The electrical contact (2) has a base (4) which can be clamped around the outside of the pipe or cable, provided with a contact element (24) on its inside surface, for forming an electrical connection with the pipe or cable. The base (4) of the contact device (4) is provided by a flexible metal band (6) with clamp lugs (8,10) at its opposite ends, the contact element (24) secured to the inside surface of the band via fixing clamps (26,28).
