<p>Compounds of formula (I):- (where R1 and R5 are 1-6C alkyl, vinyl or phenyl, R2 and R3 are H or Me and R4 is Me or Et) are prepared by reacting olefins (II) with hydroxymethyl compounds (III) (in which R4 and R5 in (III) can be linked to form a 5c aliphatic ring) n a solvent (pref. MeCOOH) and in the presence of an acid (degree of dissociation >10-2) (pref. H2SO4) at 0-40 degrees and neutralizing the resulting reaction mixture. No quaternary salts of 4H-5, 6-dihyro- 1, 3-oxazines result from the reaction. From the disclosure, it is evident that R4 and R5 in (I) can be linked to form a ring (particular rings in examples are those of caprolactam and 2-pyrrolidone). (I) are useful as textile auxiliaries and as intermediates for pharmaceuticals.</p> |
