PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stack and store sheet workpieces fed horizontally downstream from one process step in a preselected storage box without damaging them or causing imperfect storage. SOLUTION: When a sheet workpiece is carried by a feed conveyor part 2 from an upstream process step down to a clamping feed part where it is stopped, an upper clamp 13 and a lower clamp 15 hold the leading end of the sheet workpiece. The clamping feed part is then moved in the workpiece feed direction, and at the same time an auxiliary roller part 21 is moved also in the workpiece feed direction at a lower rate than the clamping feed part to support the undersurface of the sheet workpiece forwarded. When the trailing end of the sheet workpiece leaves a sensor 4, the auxiliary roller part 21 is returned to its workpiece waiting position and at the same time the lower clamp 15 is turned downward to thereby let the sheet workpiece fall into a storage box 23 where it is stored.
