摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new twin type compound composed of only carbon element, having electronic properties same as or similar to these of C60, and stably present by connecting the C60's as a carbon allotrope of spherically bound carbon atoms, with two carbon atoms. SOLUTION: This molecule of twin type fullerene C122 has a structure obtained by connecting C60's through two carbon atoms, and is a carbon allotrope composed of only carbon element. The fullerene C122 has intermediate properties of a higher-order fullerene molecule and a fullerene-derived molecule, and electronic properties such as spectroscopic ones same as or similar to these of the C60. The fullerene C122 is stably present even at a high temperature. This C122 twin type fullerene molecule can be synthesized by using the C60 fullerene molecule as a raw material. For example, the molecule is obtained by adding another carbon atom as methylene group to adjacent C-C bond of the C60 molecule by using a sulfonium ylide or the like to provide a three- membered ring structure, and subjecting the obtained C60 analogue to thermal decomposition.
