<p>Pressings based on pyrogenic silica (SiO2) have an outside diameter of 0.8-20 mm, BET surface area of 30-400 m<2>/g, pore volume of 0.5-1.3 ml/g, breaking strength of 10-250 N, composition > 99.8 wt.% SiO2 and < 0.2 wt.% other constituents, attrition < 5 wt.% and bulk density of 350-750 g/l. Also claimed are a supported catalyst (I) for the production of vinyl acetate monomer (VAM), which consists of palladium (Pd), gold (Au) and alkali acetate supported on the pressing; methods of making the pressings and catalyst (I).</p> |
